color: #000000;\"><u>Losses We Never Considered<\/u><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Welcome back &#8211;\u00a0let us pray together:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Lord, here we are again, seeking your guidance for our lives.\u00a0 Speak to us and enable us\u00a0to hear you.\u00a0 Quiet our hearts and minds so that we can absorb your message.\u00a0 Amen<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Today we look at &#8220;Threatened Loss&#8221;: It\u2019s one of the hardest losses.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><br \/>\nTheir possibility is ever present.\u00a0 Your sense of control is destroyed.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Example:<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; You\u2019ve worked for 19 years at the same company.\u00a0 At 20 years, all your benefits are secure.\u00a0 Then due to the economy, 40% lay-offs are announced.<br \/>\nWill you be one of the 40%?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>&#8211; There are many other threatened losses in life:<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n. . . awaiting the outcome of a biopsy from the medical clinic.<br \/>\n. . . a spouse saying, \u201cI\u2019m thinking of divorcing you.\u201d<br \/>\n. . . a business investment which may not come through.<br \/>\n. . . being sued by an angry employee or customer.<br \/>\n. . . being in a foreign country and being kidnapped.<br \/>\n. . . a friend tells you they suspect your child\/teen is using drugs.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>There is little you can do about these potential losses.\u00a0 They could occur.\u00a0 You feel helpless.<br \/>\nWe will get back to this subject.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nFurther major\u00a0VARIATIONS OF LOSS are<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Material Loss: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>&#8211; You cannot find a physical object \u201cI cannot find my . . .\u201d <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Familiar surroundings disappear by means of\u00a0floods, mud slides, storms, earth quakes.<br \/>\n&#8211; How about losing your belongings in a house fire?<br \/>\n&#8211; How does\u00a0a break-in in your house affect you?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Relationship Loss:<\/u><\/strong> <strong><br \/>\nThis loss can come from<br \/>\n&#8211; a move to another part of your town,\u00a0another city, another country.<br \/>\n&#8211; a divorce, a death or<br \/>\n&#8211; just growing up, or growing apart. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Intra-psychic Loss:<\/u><\/strong> <strong><br \/>\n&#8211; The way you view yourself changes, you might lose confidence in yourself.<br \/>\nIt could involve\u00a0changing plans or giving up a long-time dream.<br \/>\n&#8211; Someone might lose courage, faith or hope.<br \/>\n&#8211; An expectation of what might have been but which does not materialize is seen as a loss:<br \/>\nWhat if you had taken the other job offer, had married another person.<br \/>\nWhat if . . .<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Functional Loss: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>&#8211; Muscular or neurological function of our body.\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Aging with all its aches and pains!<br \/>\n&#8211; Memory losses can be devastating.\u00a0 Loss of autonomy.<br \/>\n&#8211; The \u201cI can manage\u201d capability diminishes and you try to adjust.<br \/>\n&#8211; Some are overwhelming like losing a breast, a limb, an eye.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Role Loss\/Identity Loss:<\/u><\/strong> <strong><br \/>\nDue to life\u2019s changes you lose your place in some social network.<br \/>\n&#8211; Being promoted or\u00a0demoted, loss of a spouse or\u00a0change of career, no longer a student but\u00a0now an adult<br \/>\n&#8211; Retirement \u2026 Think of life as a theatre production, and you have a certain role.\u00a0 If that role is taken away from you, you are literally left without a part to play, and may indeed not know \u2018the lines\u2019. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Systemic Loss: <\/u><\/strong><strong><u><br \/>\n<\/u><\/strong><strong>It occurs usually when a person leaves a group and that upsets the balance of the system. <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; A jovial co-worker who is no longer there and no longer shares cheerfulness and humor.<br \/>\n&#8211; A child leaving home, off to college, leaving the family circle.\u00a0 \u201cFamily life will never be the same\u201d.\u00a0 We might be intellectually prepared but often not emotionally.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><u>Ambiguous Loss:<\/u><\/strong><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n1.\u00a0People are perceived by family members as<u> physically absent but psychologically present<\/u>, because it is unclear whether they are dead or alive.\u00a0 Missing soldiers, kidnapped or run-away\u00a0children illustrate this type of loss in its worst form.<br \/>\nor<br \/>\n2.\u00a0 A person is perceived as <u>physically present but psychologically absent<\/u>.\u00a0 This condition is illustrated in the extreme by people with Alzheimer\u2019s disease, addictions, and other chronic mental illnesses.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Of all Personal Relationship Losses, ambiguous loss is the most devastating because it remains unclear.\u00a0 Perceiving loved ones as present when they are gone, or gone when they are present, can make people feel helpless and thus more prone to depression, anxiety, and relationship conflicts.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 Because this loss is confusing, people are baffled and immobilized.\u00a0 They cannot problem-solve because they do not yet know whether the problem (the loss) is final or temporary.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>The majority of losses we experience are difficult to grieve over.\u00a0 Why? Because they\u2019re usually not accepted as a loss, there is usually no funeral, no condolence card, no \u2018casserole parade\u2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>We have just taken a closer look at losses we gradually go thru in\u00a0life as we\u00a0age.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <strong>Let\u2019s now look at a new way of walking with God.<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nLET US EXAMINE OUR HUMAN POSITION FROM SCRIPTURE:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground,<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <strong> (Genesis 2:7), . . . \u201cBy the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.\u201d (Genesis 3:19)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>LIKE THE WHOLE EARTH, WE ARE TEMPORARY,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u201c. . . Do not worry about your life, . . .Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.\u00a0 Are you not much more valuable then they?\u00a0 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?\u201d (Matthew 6:25ff)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>WE ARE FRAGILE,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>We are fragile, \u201cjars of clay\u201d(2 Corinthians 4:7-9), \u201cWe are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; hunted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.\u201d <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n\u201cWe do not lose heart.\u00a0 Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.\u00a0 We fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen.\u00a0 For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.\u201d\u00a0 (2 Corinthians 4:16,18)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>LIFE ON EARTH IS FRAGILE,<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u201cWhat then shall we say in response to this (life, losses)?\u00a0 If God is for us, who can be against us?\u201d (Romans 8:31)<\/strong><strong><br \/>\n\u201cFor I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God\u2019s love.\u00a0 Death can\u2019t, and life can\u2019t.\u00a0 The angels can\u2019t, and all the powers of hell itself cannot keep God\u2019s love away.\u00a0 Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, or where we are &#8211; nothing will ever be able to separate us from the love of God demonstrated by our Lord Jesus Christ when He died for us.\u201d\u00a0 (Romans 8:38-39, paraphrased)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>HANDLE WITH TENDER LOVING CARE !\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">As we count our losses, we\u00a0realise\u00a0our blessings:<\/span><\/strong> <strong><br \/>\nLoss can strengthen our faith.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>It enables us to trust (have faith) in God and His resources rather than ourselves.\u00a0 With every loss, we are reminded of the fact that we are neither in control nor are we self-sufficient.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Every loss allows us to rest in the free compassionate grace of God.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Loss enables us to change our perspective, and allows our hope for a renewed life to grow.<\/strong><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>WAIT A MINUTE!\u00a0 &#8211;\u00a0 CHANGE MY PERSPECTIVE ?\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Read<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%202:8-9&amp;version=31\"><strong>Genesis 2:8-9<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%202:15-17%20;&amp;version=31;\"><strong>Genesis 2:15-17<\/strong><\/a><strong> and <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis%203:1-5;&amp;version=31;\"><strong>Genesis 3:1-5<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/a><strong><br \/>\nImagine the stage: Paradise as a beautiful garden, Adam and Eve interact with nature, enjoy a juicy peach or plum, and Eve has a little chat with a serpent dangling from a tree in the middle of the garden.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-912 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/new.eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image015-1.jpg\" alt=\"image015\" width=\"544\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image015-1.jpg 544w, https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image015-1-300x238.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 544px) 100vw, 544px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>What do they talk about?\u00a0 Let\u2019s listen to the conversation: <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n&#8211; Serpent, \u201cHowdi?\u00a0 Would you like a mango?\u201d (<em>Who said it was an apple???)<\/em><em><br \/>\n<\/em>&#8211; Eve, \u201cHi, no thanks.\u00a0 I am not allowed.\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211; \u201cWhat?!\u00a0 Why not? Why would God plant a tree and not allow you to eat from it?\u201d<br \/>\n&#8211; \u201cWell, GOD told us not to eat it or even touch it, or we would die.\u201d<br \/>\n(Now THAT\u2019S a big lie, God had not talked about touching it!\u00a0 see Gen. 2:17)<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Now, Adam joins Eve.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-914 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image017-1.jpg\" alt=\"image017\" width=\"560\" height=\"464\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image017-1.jpg 560w, https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image017-1-300x249.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 560px) 100vw, 560px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Then the serpent, being \u201cmore crafty than the other wild animals the Lord had made\u201d, plants a thought, just a wee little thought, &#8211; \u201cSurely, you will not die, but. . . you will be like God, . . .\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>And THAT thought has played on our human minds ever since. Generation after generation, we strive to be self-sufficient and \u2018in control\u2019, \u2026 \u2018be like god\u2019.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>We talk about it in different terms today, we say<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>*Look out for #1 !!!<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <strong> *If you don\u2019t look out for yourself, nobody will.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>SO, WHO CONTROLS\u00a0MY LIFE\u00a0OR\u00a0YOUR LIFE?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Every loss is important.\u00a0 Loss is part of life, it cannot be avoided.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nLosses are necessary!\u00a0 Yes, necessary:<br \/>\nYou change and grow by losing and then accepting the loss as part of life.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-856 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image019-300x246.jpg\" alt=\"image019\" width=\"300\" height=\"246\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image019-300x246.jpg 300w, https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image019-768x630.jpg 768w, https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image019-1024x841.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/eklutheran.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/image019.jpg 1334w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Picture a farmer as you read <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke%208:4-8%20;&amp;version=31;\"><strong>Luke 8:4-8<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>&#8220;While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: &#8220;A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds of the air ate it up. Some fell on rock, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.&#8221; When he said this, he called out, &#8220;He who has ears to hear, let him hear.&#8221;<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>In the light of this parable, what kind of &#8220;soil&#8221; are we?<br \/>\na)\u00a0 &#8220;A path&#8221;:\u00a0 Very tolerant and therefore non-committal?<br \/>\nb)\u00a0 &#8220;Rocky soil&#8221;:\u00a0 Very vibrant, excitable but no stomach to see things through?<br \/>\nc)\u00a0 &#8220;Weeds&#8221;:\u00a0 Very interested, but busy at work, busy socially.\u00a0 \u201cNo time\u201d!<br \/>\nd)\u00a0 &#8220;Good soil&#8221;:\u00a0 Enjoys life fully but life\u2019s strings are held in God\u2019s hands.\u00a0 Will allow God to plow and fertilize, seed and harvest.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Life takes on a deeper and richer meaning because of losses, priorities change.\u00a0 And the better you handle your losses, the healthier you will be and the more you will grow and be transformed.\u00a0No one said that loss was fair, but it is part of EVERY life.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Perhaps losses traumatize us so much because they carry the message, \u201cYou really are not in charge of your life.\u00a0 You don\u2019t have much control over your destiny after all.\u00a0 You just thought you did and now that belief is shattered.\u00a0 You\u2019re at the mercy of whatever happens.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>We all like to be in control of our lives, many demand to be in control (abortion, euthanasia), or at least we think we are in control (as we plan our future).\u00a0 But, check out Luke 9:23, Jesus speaks to the crowd <\/strong><strong><br \/>\n<\/strong><strong><em>&#8220;\u2026, you must turn from your self-centered ways, take up your cross (allow transformation) daily, &#8230;<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Loss of control is one of our deepest fears.\u00a0 Some people take control of their lives because they fear the control of others.\u00a0 <u>Controlling behavior is the fear of trusting (having faith in) others.<\/u><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"> <strong> Dr. Lloyd John Ogilvie writes, \u201cA controller cannot trust God because he fears the control of his life resting in anyone\u2019s hand but his own.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Ogilvie continues: \u201cOur need to be in charge of ourselves, of others, and of situations often makes our relationship with Christ life\u2019s biggest power struggle.\u00a0 We are reluctant to relinquish our control and allow Him to run our lives.\u00a0 We may believe in Him and be active in the church and Christian causes, but trusting Him as Lord of everything in life can be scary.\u00a0 Even though we pray about our challenges and problems, all too often what we really want is strength to accomplish what we\u2019ve already decided is best for ourselves and others.\u00a0 Meanwhile, we press on with our own priorities and plans. We remain the scriptwriter, casting director, choreographer, and producer of the drama of our own lives, in which we are the star performer.\u201d<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Can you relate to any of the above?<br \/>\nThe way of trust and faith in the triune God is a better way to live.\u00a0 It might just help us to better handle the losses of life.\u00a0 Loss enables us to realize our limitations and to trust more in God and His resources rather than our own.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Question:<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nHOW MUCH CONTROL DID YOU HAVE IN CHOOSING YOUR GENDER, PARENTS, SKIN COLOR OR TIME OF BIRTH ?<br \/>\nRead Psalm 139:<br \/>\nLord, You know when I sit and when I rise; . . . before a word is on my tongue You know it completely.\u00a0 You both proceed and follow me, . . .(<em>day and night<\/em>) for darkness is as light to you. . . You knit me together in my mother\u2019s womb, . . . your eyes saw my unformed body.\u00a0 All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. . . Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts, and lead me in the way everlasting. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>As Jeremiah 29:11-14 says,<br \/>\nFor I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future&#8230; You will seek me and &#8230; I will be found by you and bring you back from captivity (<\/strong><em><strong>your loss<\/strong><\/em><strong>). <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>Psalm 39:4-7:<br \/>\n\u201cShow me, O Lord, my life\u2019s end and the number of my days; let me know how fleeting my life is.\u00a0 Each man\u2019s life is but a breath before you. Man bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it.\u00a0 But now, Lord, what do I look for?\u00a0 My hope is in you.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>LOSS PRODUCES MATURITY<\/strong><strong><br \/>\nThere are character qualities such as patience, endurance, humility, long suffering, gratitude and self-control that can develop as a result of our losses. See Romans 5:3-4, paraphrased:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma, arial, helvetica, sans-serif;\"><strong>\u201cMoreover &#8211; let us also be full of joy now!\u00a0 Let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient and unswerving endurance.\u00a0 And endurance develops maturity of character &#8211;
